Tetris was released in 1989 for the Nintendo system. This version of Tetris has two modes of play: A-Type and B-Type. In A-Type play, the goal is to achieve the highest score. As lines are cleared, the level advances and increases the speed of the falling blocks. At the beginning of a B-Type game, the board starts with randomized obstacle blocks at the bottom of the field, and the goal is to clear 25 lines. In B-Type, the level remains constant, and the player chooses the height of the obstacle beforehand. Tetris 2 was released in 1994 for the Nintendo system. As a variation of the Tetris concept, rather than having the objective of matching horizontal lines of blocks that descend from the top of the screen, the player matches the colors of the descending blocks (which include irregular tetromino shapes) to blocks already fixed on the game board, which causes blocks to disappear from the board when three blocks of the same color are matched, in a manner similar Dr. Mario.
